Horses
 Glory
I never imagined I would be a horse person. Horses are beautiful to watch but their size has always intimidated me. For that reason I was always a donkey person instead. When we purchased our donkey, Maggie, the plan was that she would live with our goats. What we didn't count on was that she saw goats as funny looking dogs and wanted nothing to do with them! That put us in a bad situation as donkeys are very social animals and need companionship. That is when Glory entered the picture...
Once we realized we were going to have to get another equine for Maggie we began scouring the Internet. All of the donkeys we found were either too far away, out of our price range, or breedable males. After several nights of listening to Maggie cry we decided to broaden our search to miniature horses. It was during one such search that I came across an ad for Glory. Although we knew nothing of horses her ad sounded wonderful as she was good with children and gentle. She was in need of a new home quickly as her owners were moving so I thought it wouldn't hurt to just inquire. We made plans to meet her and it was instant love for my husband! Needless to say, I did some quick studying on horse care and then Glory came to live with us.
At over 15 hands high, she towers all of us but she is a gentle giant. She loves our children and will run to the fence for a scratch and a kiss whenever they come outside. I have also taken to her and don't even notice her size anymore. She is just one of the family now!
Maggie has stopped her night time crying so she is obviously happy for the companionship!! Its funny to see how attached Glory has gotten to Maggie. We extended our pasture so that it is in an L shape. Maggie is a free spirit and roam as she pleases. Every once in awhile she will get out of sight from Glory and the horse will begin to yell and get very upset. When Maggie hears her she comes running back to show Glory where she is. Sometimes they seem more like mother and child than companions!

I am sure that Glory will not be the only horse in our future. My husband is enjoying having a horse to ride and I am sure that soon we will be getting another so we can trail ride together. We have wonderful mentors who are teaching us all we need to know in caring for her and she has opened up a whole new world for us!
