Donkeys

~Donkey Facts & Basic Care | ~Donkey Legends

When we decided to get a donkey for our farm we wanted it to protect our goats. We were having a time with stray dogs getting into the fence and trying to kill our babies. We had been told that a donkey would be perfect for this since they naturally hate dogs and will run them off.

I remember our family and friends giving us a hard time about our decision because they believed donkeys were mean and dangerous. We were told that all they did was kick and bite. Thankfully we didn't listen!

Jenny -Miniature Donkey

We named our first donkey Jenny and she was such a wonderful addition to our farm. She would run up to me with a nice loud "hello" every time I visited. She then rubbed herself against my legs much like the family cat. She would follow me anywhere around the farm, unless it was somewhere I wanted her to go! She quickly became one of our favorite animals on the farm. She and I were inseparable. It broke my heart when we had to sell our farm and find her a new home.

This is our current donkey, Maggie. She is an standard donkey and at 1 1/2 years she is already much taller that Jenny was at full grown. It will be another year and a half before Maggie reachers her full size. She is such a wonderful addition to our family! She loves attention and butt scratches are her favorite.
